It is always exciting when a new film stock hits the market, especially now that Fujifilm has discontinued most of the films they used to make. They might as well remove the word "film" from their name at this point.
Back to CineStill 400D. It delivers warm, brown-toned photographs that feel calming, like revisiting an old memory. That dreamy quality is further enhanced by the signature halation, which is especially noticeable when shooting against the sun. As usual with CineStill, they remove the remjet layer from Kodak’s cinema film which causes the glowing effect and also makes the film easier to develop using the standard C-41 process.
Images come out lifelike and sharp, with minimal grain. It’s a high-quality film stock that also responds well to pushing if desired. I’m genuinely looking forward to loading more of this into my film camera.
