For how much we enjoyed Penfold’s 407, the 389 must be as good as it too is a highly regarded amongst wine drinkers. On the nose, it is extremely fruity; raspberry and blackberry-like while on the palate, cherry and more dark berries. Finally leaving a smooth long finish of plum and faint hint of spice.

The Penfold BIN 389 doesn’t reveal itself without at least a good hour of airing like a pair of speakers that have yet to break-in whereby spiciness rushes quickly into the nose. If I absolutely have to choose between these rather excellent blends the 389 and 407, my money goes to the latter.
