Superia Premium 400 is a Japan exclusive, comes in threes and in an interesting package written entirely in Japanese. Despite a fifty percent premium, I went ahead given how lovely the X-tra 400 is.
Shooting during midday or in the golden hour exudes its signature (magenta tint) look while preserving highlights and shadows. However, grain seems more apparent on the Premium as compared to the X-tra. Like 400H, obvious grain makes portraits look more alive, bravo!
Unfortunately when not shooting humans, grains do get annoying so I’ll recommend rating the film at ISO 200. Even though it’s priced close to professional grade films, you’ll be glad to have given the Premium a go.

Didn’t quite care for the fact that one of these costs nearly as much as Fuji 400H because I’m just a sucker for anything with premium written on them. Back to film, my experience with the Superia Premium is a pleasant one. It reminded me a lot of the much loved but discontinued ProPlus II. I suspect it could even be a related emulsion as it too carries a magenta tint while other times looking like a mix of Kodak’s Ektar and Portra 400. I believe I have just found my favourite 35mm.
