ANALOGUE: Fujifilm Superia X-tra 400

MONDAY AUGUST 20, 2018

This variant of 35mm renders skin tone well, especially so for fairer complexion. Being a 400 speed film, it is useful for most conditions so long the camera has the shutter speeds to match. Grain is noticeable which is a norm at such ISO ratings. Like many films, Super X-tra loves light and with help from the burning star, pictures will certainly pop.

Unlike Kodak Colorplus 200 and Fuji C200, shooting below box speed is not required as photographs are well exposed at 400.

Fujifilm’s Superia X-tra 400 brings about a colder side of the colour palate and for some reason reminds me of autumn. Colours are tuned towards undersaturation, very Fuji but the colour red, never fails to grab attention. The X-tra can be regarded as the best of both worlds, delivering fast speeds and controlled grain. This film is flexible on exposure latitude where shooting under harsh sunlight, both highlights and detail are well preserved.

With Agfa Vista 400 out of the way, albeit a bump in price this has to be my current fix.
