3 watch collection

FEATURE: 3-Watch Collection

MONDAY APRIL 3, 2017

Omega Speedmaster

Be it a one or three watch collection, the Speedmaster is well deserving of a spot. The Speedy can be had with a date function, an array of straps and even cased in gold so there is surely one that matches your taste. The 21st century reimagined Speedmaster is definitely taking it this year. It is all of what people adore in a Speedy cased in a 38.6mm diameter shell. When production runs out, the First Omega in Space with a brown leather band is more than just a consolation.

royal oak 15450

Audemars Piguet Royak Oak

Instead of the usual Oyster Perpetual as a daily beater, the RO does everything a Rolex can albeit a tad bit brittle. Its distinctive design and hand applied white gold screws capture no less attention than a fluted bezel. The preferred choice is the 15450 range for being on the sweet spot of diameter size. Oftentimes I just wish it does not have a date window.

nomos metro blue

Nomos Metro

Steering clear out of the brash club, Nomos Glashuette is an excellent place to turn to. The Metro neomatik at a comfortable 35 millimetres making it a delightful dress watch, ideally in white but it is difficult to look past midnight blue (nachtblau). Should you desire for a larger case, it too is available in 38mm in both colours.

zenith 146

Zenith Heritage 146

As the name suggests, this recent launch features the watch of the 1960s having only 2 counters and no date window on the dial. Here, the counter at 9 o’clock shows the small seconds and a 30-minute track at 3 o’clock. At the size of 38mm, Heritage 146 beats automatically at a rapid 36,000 vibrations per hour. If you’ve missed out on Hodinkee’s edition or hates the colour blue, there’s brown.

red sea dweller

Rolex Sea-Dweller

The new Rolex Sea-Dweller now pops with a Cyclops lens which gives the date window located at 3 o’clock some oomph. Inside this 43mm Oyster case features the in-house 3235 movement which integrates something called Chronergy escapement. It is said to be highly efficient, robust and impervious to magnetic disturbance as if it wasn’t already so.

grand seiko 253

Grand Seiko SBGW253

Grand Seikos has gone back to their roots by spelling their name across the 12 o’clock position. This year at Basel, Seiko decided to recreate throwback models where a touch of gold has been added to the GS emblem on the back of its modern 38mm case. Inside stands a 9S64 manual winding caliber that keeps time seriously well.
